Composed by 60 musicians, BFRJ brought, since its foundation in 2010, quality music to all the levels of society, having peformed in several cultural spaces and important cultural events of the state of Rio de Janeiro.

Throughout BFRJ history, it had performed in renowned spaced such as the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, Sala Cecília Meireles, Teatro Oi Casa Grande, Teatro João Caetano, Imperator – Cultural Center João Nogueira, Teatro Municipal de Niterói, Casa de Rui Barbosa, Biblioteca Parque de Manguinhos, Festival Villa-Lobos, Rio Cello Encounter, O Rio é Sax Festival e Projeto Candelária, and others.

National and international artists of different artistic branchs also have performed along with BFRJ such as: João Donato (piano), Nivaldo Ornelas (saxophone), Mauro Senise (saxophone), Jacques Mauger (trombone – France), Friedrich Kleinhapl (cello – Austria), Quinteto Rubato (Spain), Daniel Guedes (violin), Grupo Água de Moringa, Márcio Gomes (singer), Clarice Niskier (actress), Carlinhos de Jesus (ballet dancer) e Bateria mirim da Beija Flor.

BFRJ is making several orders and national and international premieres of original works for philharmonic orchestra, encouraging compositors from Brazil and the world, to expand the repertoire of philharmonic orquestras.

 

In 2015, BFRJ honored Rio de Janeiro's 450 anniversary, where were performed more than 30 concerts in several cultural spaces of the city with the sponsorship from Rio de Janeiro's city hall.

 

In 2016, BFRJ's artistic season was inspired on Rio 2016 Olympic Games and on the 100 anniversary of Samba, a musical style deeply connected to Rio's music history and to the beginning of other Rio de Janeiro's music styles, such as Choro e Bossa Nova.
